Kevin Smith, former Executive Director of Literacy New York, speaks at the Yonkers Public Library on the critical need to restore funding to adult literacy. Twenty-two percent of New Yorkers have below basic literacy skills. With further cuts in NYS funding, the Literacy New York network will no longer be able to recruit, train, support and match tutors and students. “It will be disastrous,” says Patricia Rajala, President of Literacy Volunteers of Westchester County.
